The food was very average and the service terrible. We were seated when it was mostly empty, bu t it filled up. After taking our order, we never saw our waitress again. I had to go inside to get my own drink refills, condiments, and silverware. Do not expect reasonable service here.

Good dinner for four this week. Good royal red shrimp. Outstanding cocktail sauce.

Best crab cakes I've ever had, quality and taste! Presentation is casual island life paper and plastic. Don't let that fool you- YUM!

Oh corn nuggets how I love you! You are so good yet so bad for me. This place definitely wins the award on this unusual and fun Southern delicacy! You must try them if you are in the South and this is the place to do so! The Amberjack was the dinner special and was completely fresh - so fresh that the waitress told us the owner speared it himself. Okay let me start with that I DO NOT EAT COLESLAW. I hate mayo and therefore hate coleslaw. Yet, I ATE ALL OF THEIRS. We asked and it is made by the owners from their own recipe. It had an amazing fresh and no mayo taste. The crab/shrimp bisque was delicious and creamy. If you enjoy seafood bisques then this is one you should order it has a little spice and ample amounts of real meat. The service was super efficient and friendly. Tammy was wonderful. We will be certainly be back.....tomorrow! :)

If you've ever been to Dauphin Island, then you know choices are limited when looking for places to go out to eat. So this is why we ended up here twice in our week long trip. I will start by saying that the food is awesome. It's really the only reason we returned. Terribly priced though. I got the snapper that comes with fries served on a paper boat for $19! It was definitely good, but for $19 you'd think I could at least get it on a plate or something. But we are on an island, so sacrifices are made. The first time we went it was very busy, so a wait was expected. However, it took almost an hour for us to get our food. Not very conducive when you have three young children with you. No alcohol is served or allowed downstairs so my boyfriend and I went upstairs and left the rest of the family and young ones downstairs while we grabbed some drinks. Smoking is allowed upstairs at the bar. The drinks were good, service was way better upstairs. Until I saw a girl sitting at the bar put out her cigarette and go and take a tables food order. Yes, the waitress took a smoke break, in the bar, just about four yards from the table she was serving. After a couple drinks we went back downstairs only to find our food still hadn't arrived. But whatever, we're on beach time and there's a large group of us. The food was awesome so we returned on our last night, this time there was just four of us. Two other tables sat down after us and got their food before we even got our appetizer or a refill on waters. One table even made a comment about how long we had to wait. After the waitress dropped off our food we never saw her again. Understandable the first night because they were busy, but there were several open tables and the whole back patio was empty. Long story short, service is TERRIBLE but the food is good. With little choices on the island I guess they can get away with that.

We ordered at 7:04 pm and got our order at 8:20 pm. There were other people that waited longer than that. Not sure why it was taking so long. It was a Sunday night and they were fairly busy but not crazy busy. We asked one of the waitress after 45 minutes how much longer it would be. She came back and said is was next to be up. 30 minutes later still no food and she just ignored us. The waitresses seemed to be on the go so not sure what the hold up was. The food was good. I had the grouper tacos and they we delicious. Husband had the seafood platter. Very small portion for $19.99 but it was good. Loved the atmosphere of the place.

Crazy slow service and food arrival even on a really slow evening. Great views of the sunset from the second floor balcony. Dog friendly outdoors. Ordered blackened fish tacos and they were delicious, and only $8.50...I mean really amazing views and delicious food.

My husband and I just had JT Sunset Grills Special; Red Shrimp Basket, with fries and slaw for $10.95. The Reds were great. It was a half pound (about 14 shrimp). I recommend this. My son had the large burger and fries which he seemed to enjoy (and it was large). My daughter had an appetizer with shrimp, chicken fingers and cheese sticks. She seemed to enjoy this meal.

Food was great. Portion sizes vary small for price. Well over hour to get food. Did not serve alcohol.

Very pricey and little food. The reviews are correct. The food is good that you get. The seafood platter for $20 should get you a lot of food but it doesn't. We left hungry and has spent a lot of money to still be so hungry.

Fresh seafood, great wait staff, and they're open every day. For Dauphin Island, this is one of the better places.

Here's the rub: you can't get alcohol downstairs, but you can upstairs in the bar. There is smoking in the bar, I had forgotten that those places even existed! We chose to just have tea and Diet Coke with dinner, smoking is NOT our thing. It is 2014, right? Anyway, the food was fine, nothing amazing. The atmosphere was pretty plain. Sitting outside on the waterfront would have bumped that up significantly, but the mosquitos were also ready for dinner...if you know what I mean! Torn between 2 stars and 3, we rounded up because the service was super-friendly and efficient. Stuffed shrimp for appetizers, best part of the meal. Fried shrimp Po Boy for me and blackened fish tacos for my wife. The Po Boy wasn't notable, a bit on the dry side. The tacos were better, some kind of spicy ranch sauce made these a winner. Considering the fact that there were only 3 restaurants open on the entire island, we felt better about our choice. Had there been no smoking upstairs OR no mosquitos outside, the meal would have been more memorable.

Wow was this food good. Shrimp tacos w the bomb sauce was The Bomb. Kids loved the popcorn shrimp and the burgers-so juicy. Our server-Katie was great too. The only reason for a 4 is because the seating outside is very shady w no lighting.

This is a decent spot to grab food or hang out in their bar. Not a lot of options on Dauphin Island so this is a combo bar and restaurant but strangely you can only get beer from the upstairs bar and not in the restaurant. They have a decent selection of seafood and non-seafood items on the menu. The royal red shrimp special is good but a bit small for my taste. The gumbo isn't awful but probably is best avoided if you are used to New Orleans style gumbo. The bar closes relatively early at 9pm so not a late night place.

The five stars is for the burger!!!! It's the best Burger that both of us can remember having in a while. Our waitress was super nice but the service was a little slow. I don't think this was due to her fault. The onion rings and french fries were just so-so and the shrimp was interesting in flavor. But once again The burger was fantastic!!!! Handmade patty with awesome seasonings!!

  • Holly G.

The food was awful. My son swears the gumbo he got was heated up in the microwave in a plastic container, he could taste plastic. AWFUL. We were there at lunch time but still horrible. Service was OK. It was a holiday weekend but we will NEVER go back there again.

Had the blackened grouper with fries, cole slaw, and hush puppies. Also ordered bowl of gumbo. Gumbo was ok. Grouper was really good. Waitress did a great job keeping the small drinks refilled. Sweet tea is great! Will come back next year.

Loved this place. The food was great. The service was friendly and prompt and I sat by The water and had a beer. My boyfriend and i had a Great experience.

It is island time here, owner JT and staff cooks up an awesome hush puppy w a bit of jalapeño pepper, the best fried shrimp that he gets from a local shrimper and the friendliest staff! A few out side tables with awnings and a view of the bay. We are one of the lucky few that visit at least twice a week.., sometimes 3 times for our shrimp fix! It's an island, a local restaurant ,,, need a beer? Up stairs at the bar and you can order food from JT's ,,,, though eat outside they still smoke in the bar up stairs. Enjoy!

I can't say that I had the best meal of my life here. What I can say is that the owner/manager here was unbelievably accommodating to two hungry tourists on a random Sunday night. After a long dramatic day and a scary ferry ride in 50 MPH winds...we found ourselves hungry at 9pm on the island. But EVERYTHING was closed. The owner of JT's just HAPPENED to be in the parking lot as we drove up and he was nice enough to stick around and make us a hot meal. He was SOOOO kind, friendly, understanding, and willing to help 2 tourists out. Our gratitude is endless. He was the silver lining in a pretty awful day. We will definitely come back.

We loved it. Nothing fancy, but it was done well. Will go back to again. Grilled shrimp was amazballs. Corn nuggets were yummy too!

Really funky little place in the middle of nowhere. Took my kid there for lunch. The crab cakes were amazing, the waitress was super friendly, generally really nice mom and pop restaurant. I was a slight bit concerned about the atmosphere, but they make up for it in their generosity and sweet dispositions.

A strange setup no less. We stopped by after taking the ferry from Fort Morgan and they were not all that busy. One would think the service would be decent, however we waited forever on the waitress, the food, and had to walk up front to pay without ever seeing our waitress a final time so we had no idea what the total was until the cashier added it up. There were maybe 4 tables with folks eating outside and another 3 or so inside. The food was okay. Much like the rest of the local area, nearly everything is fried. I recommended the corn nuggets.

If you seek bad food, you found it. Asked the waitress her three favorites. Ordered all of them. Crab cakes were thin pancakes with very little crab. Shrimp tacos had shrimp the size of your small finger nail and only one row. Shrimp por boy sandwich had the same problem. Told the waitress. Cared less. Look elsewhere if you seek good food. She also mentioned all the fish was fresh but frozen. How can that be.

A bit disappointed. Arrived around noon, lunch special is 1/2 lb shrimp. So I thought to myself, great, let's try it. And I also ordered another platter: with 3 seafood combos. When the food is put on the table, they are put in a slim half open box, which is hardly a plate in my book. The boxes are mostly filled with fries, with a few shrimps crammed at the side. The taste is okay, but I don't think it is really enough for an adult ...

I never give bad reviews because no restaurant and food is perfect, but so sorry. Okay so we ate here at around dinner time. We got there at 20 minutes until 6 (5:40). The waitress cleaned the tables and was nice at first. She came over after 10 minutes to our table and asked for our drinks. I ordered a Dr. Pepper, the usual. My mom, grandpa, and sister got water, my dad got Diet Coke. My grandma ordered iced tea. The waitress gave everyone drinks and took a while to get grandma's. "Oh, my tea isn't working right now." said the waitress. So my grandma got water and it took a long time. By the way, DON'T let the name fool you! It isn't anything exciting. We got our orders ready. Finally she came to take them. I loved my shrimp tacos. My grandma ordered a burger. She hated it. It was horrible! My grandpa even said it was not edible. It took FOREVER for the food! The place has very horrid air conditioner. Everyone was disappointed in the entire restaurant of the slowness. The food is V E R Y expensive! For SOOO much money, they need a big revamp to the place! They also need REAL silverware and dishes! Instead, they have plastic everything as well as styrofoam dishes. They need to pay for real eating utensils! I think the way they make money is by attracting tourists who have never been to Dauphin Island. Don't get me wrong, I love Dauphin Island! Ohhhh, almost forgot, the lady jipped my dad at the cash reregister. (We went up there so it wouldn't take any more hours to wait so long, for we were eager to go back to Holiday Isle, our condo resort which we love.)

Overall this was a pleasant and great experience for the food. The service was a bit lacking as this is a very laid back restaurant in a sleepy vacation town. We went on a Sunday and there were only a few other people there so I don't really blame them. The service was not bad (and I've dealt with bad service before) but it was a bit slow. The food was delicious! My wife had the grilled shrimp and fries with cole slaw and hushpuppies. Everything was excellent that I tried (and I typically don't like hushpuppies). I got the blackened grouper poboy with corn fritters and it was delicious. We may go back to this place sometime. They have a bar upstairs that's called Pelican Pub. Not sure if they are linked at all but they are the same building. Like I said, great food and great outdoor dock seating make it worth while but slow service and a bit high on the prices makes me question my return.

Awesome place I ordered father's day special which was two baskets of fried shrimp and hush puppys. To my surprise I got fried JUMBO! shrimp cheapest meal I had while down here and the best as well. Cost me 35 dollars for a family of four. Plus you can not beat the view and atmosphere deffinetly felt like I was dinning at a ocean front resturant.(also really nice bar upstairs with a great view)

Not worth the time and money! We went for lunch. It wasn't busy at all but it took one of the two servers 20 minutes to take our drink order... then we sat there for another 30 minutes waiting on our order in which we sat and looked at it in the Window for at least 10 minutes. The food was good but I wouldn't go back. I had the seafood platter.. it was $15.99 but only came with 4 oysters, 4 shrimp and 1 piece of fish!

  • Allan D.

Stay away from the burger. I agree with the previous review almost not edible. The atmosphere is good for a beach vacation. They don't serve any alcohol or beer/wine nor can you bring your own. The service is slow. I would consider going back but unlikely with other options available.

My wife and I have eaten at JT's three times so far and we will return. With that said, JT's is not fine dinning. What it is, is great "Grab It and Growl" so that you can get back to having fun. The fish, shrimp and hamburgers are done very well. The folks in the kitchen know what they are doing, not to mention that it is fast as well, (not to be mistaken for FAST FOOD). JT is known also for going out and catching fresh fish to put on the menu. His staff go the extra mile for you as well. If you want to get dressed and go to dinner, go to Mobile. If you just want good food in your flip flops and shorts, go to JT's.

The shrimp was fabulous!!! The crab cakes were delicious but had too much bell pepper for my taste. I met JT and he was SO VERY accomodating. I told him that I was unable to eat the hushpuppies due to the jalapeno. He said he would make a plain batch for me and have kept for the next time I come. I will be back in the next couple of days!!!

A little divey, but fresh seafood! It may change day to day, depeding on what they can get. Passable hush puppies and good, not too mayonnaisy still crunchy cole slaw. They had fresh amber jack the night we were there, and it was grilled to perfection. A little Cajun type rub, perfectly spiced. So Good! I would definitely recommend this place.

Did carry out twice while on vaca in Dauphin. Open later, dive/beach bar atmosphere. We got the seafood gumbo and crab au gratin. Both good but could use a little more flavor. The shrimp po' boy was really good. Get bread to dip in au gratin, you won't be sorry. Super friendly people.

The family just ate there and the food was great. My wife and I had the homemade burger and it was amazing. The kids had the popcorn shrimp and they were huge. The batter had a great flavor as well. Would have given 5 stars but had to remind the waitress to bring cocktail sauce and had to take our drinks to the counter for a refill. We would definitely return as the food was great.

No calamari at a seafood restaurant. Very skim menu but the food was good. Cost $70 for a family of 5 including 2 of those as kids meals.
